Alexis Brandeker's principal area of research is star and planet formation, in particular the environments around stars where planets form. He is the national coordinator of the Swedish contributions to the ESA space telescope missions CHEOPS and PLATO, designed to find and characterise planets around other stars than the Sun, with a special focus on potentially life bearing worlds. Since 2015 he is the chair of the Swedish Astrobiology Network (SWAN) and the national representative to the board of the European Astrobiology Network Association (EANA).
